Hmm. Never saw this one before...
When I logged in today through the web interface (the way I usually do), I wasn't taken to the screen listing all of my snipes. Instead I was taken to a screen with this message...
. Important Message
. Your eBay account is not linked to the sniper.
. Click here to link it
When I click on the "Click here" link in the message, I am taken to a screen that looks like my profile page, but in the "My eBay account" section says...
. Ebay Username:
. Status: Not valid
. Expiration:
. Link eBay account: Sign-in
. Unlink eBay: Revoke
(Both "Sign-In" and "Revoke" are HTML links. Both "Ebay Username:" and "Expiration:" are blank.]
And on the same screen, the "Help & Hints" section says...
. My eBay account is for linking the sniper to your eBay
. account. This is required in order for the sniper to
. place bids on your behalf and access your account's
. information such as your Watch List and Bidding
. activity.
If I ignore it and just click the "Buy" button, I see all my snipes.
Not sure what to do. I think I can just ignore it, but would like some advice to know for sure.
Thanks,
Eric

It's a new process to link your eBay account with your sniper's account.
Should provide higher reliability for your snipes. It's highly recommended to follow up and link it.
Please let me know if any issues while doing so.

Ok, will do.
Thanks for the quick follow up (as always!).

This looks great, Sashka. Seemslike it's a very official way to connect to eBay.
Does this mean that the Myibidder account will now become separate from the eBay account? (Separate credentials, etc.?)
Looks very professional.
Regards,
Eric

Yes, it's separate and so it's highly recommended to have a different password for the sniper.

I have not made the change yet. Can you expound a little on how this linking of accounts will be a benefit? It has been working fine for me and I hate to fix something that is not broken. Is this discussed somewhere in detail in another post/forum? What do you mean when you state that you highly recommend one change the password for the sniper? Do you mean create a separate eBay account for the sniper? You state, "We need your consent to share your eBay data. Don't worry, we won't share your eBay password. You can change this any time by editing your account preferences." What exactly in account preferences would be changed? I don't see it. Thanks for your app and your time.

aj_chicago,
Initially, you used eBay login information to login to the sniper.
This was a source of various issues (not with all users, but some) when eBay added captcha or some other account-related verification steps. Some snipes were failing because of this.
The new process allows you to link the sniper as an application with your eBay account.
This way the sniper does not need to login to your eBay account and trigger account-related blocks which may interfere with the sniping process.
As an additional security, that will not share your eBay password with the sniper anymore.
When you say "Your state: we need your consent to share your eBay data", that does not come from the sniper. That comes from eBay when you authorize the sniper to access your account. Please check the URL in your browser to confirm it comes from eBay.
So the account preferences is your actual eBay's account preferences where you can revoke authorization at your will.
That's how you can get to it:
eBay - My eBay - Account, then scroll down "Third-party authorizations" (under "General Preferences" section).
Click "Show" on the right.
Depending on your eBay activity, you may have a few there. One of them is Myibidder.

Hi,
I tried this out today -- works great. I now have two different passwords, one for Myibidder and one for eBay.
Thanks again for the great enhancement.
Regards,
Eric

I re-linked my account, but now I only have 5 items left in list. Where are all the items gone I bid in the past on?

I too have been faced with this new approach to using Myibidder this evening. I've got past the linking stage and have been following this thread for further information. There are still one or two issues that confuse me. First, what is the 'expirity 539 days'? And if I want to create a different Myibidder password to that of the eBay account I'm linked to, how do I do that? I don't seem to be able to recognise any 'change password' facility from within the Myibidder profile screen.

Thank you, I have gone through the linking process on the myibidder website - do I need to change anything on the myibidder app which I usually use?

Once you completed the link and you see "Status: Active" as a confirmation, all your apps using the same username will use the same link.
That means you don't need to do anything in other apps once you linked your account once.
The link affects the whole account, no matter how you access it.

Sorry if I am sounding stupid but Myibidder app is asking for my ebay user name and ebay password to log in. Surely this isn't right as the passwords are now different?

You should always login using your sniper's username/password when you login to the sniper.
The Windows app is pending update to change the labels, but this is for sniper's login information.
Sorry for confusion.
