Snipe Failure | Mon Oct 20, 2014 06:28 PM | | |

Hi,
Just saw a snipe fail to fire - item was at 5.00GBP (+3.00P&P), my snipe was GBP7.05 with 8 seconds to go. The dashboard showed me:
"Your snipe was too low due to eBay's bid increment system"
Any ideas how I can avoid that happening again?

There was a slight change on eBay's layout which affected some snipes including yours.
I made a change to reflect that, so it looks good now.
I'm sorry for the affected snipes.

I've lost 2 items tonight due to supposed 'increment failure' this is appalling, they were both well over the asking price. This has never happened before, what is wrong???

This auction snipe has also just come back with a reason for losing as the same as above - ie the "snipe is too low due to EBay's increment system' -
321551089658
BUT THE INCREMENTS FOR THIS AUCTION AND ALSO THOSE FOR THE SIMILARLY LOST AUCTION MENTIONED IN MY POST DIRECT,Y ABOVE ARE ONLY £0.20 and £0.50, are they not?!? If so, why did the snipe lose and why did it mention the increment system???

I just lost two auctions tonight, with the lost snipe saying the exact same thing - ie blaming the increment system. My max bid was definitely above the next permitted increment bid. In one of these two auctions, it was well above.
What is happening?!??

My item (121459947709)showed bid increments of £5.00 (£180, £185, £190), but my snipe of £200 failed to win the auction and listed as "Your snipe was too low due to eBay's bid increment system". Can you please advise why this would happen, as it reduces my faith in the system to do what it advertises?

gentleman2012,
Please take a moment to check my response above where I mentioned about some layout changes which affected it.
It's been back to normal the same day.

what everyone described above happened to me less than an hour ago - October 22. Auction ended 13:57:16 PDT. Item # 221914751823.
my snipe was for $72.12 with 5 seconds time. auction ended at $56.00. last bid was entered 1 second before it ended. my bid never registered with eBay. status is "My Status: Your snipe was too low due to eBay's bid increment system".
is this going to keep happening today?

turns out my bidding on ebay was restricted until i confirmed my phone number! only found this out when i tried to manually place a bid. it was too late at that point, of course! missed out on 4 auctions i was looking forward to. this whole "ebay increment system" message was extremely misleading!

Yes, the message is misleading in your case. Your bid was refused by eBay and the sniper could not properly figure out the reason so it assumed it was bid increment, while in fact it was something else.
The bid increment has nothing to do with this, of course.
I updated the status on your snipe.
Thank you for sharing and follow up.
